One year of Marriage

April 11th was the one year anniversary of my husband and I getting married (legally). We had a civil ceremony prior to getting married in my parent's backyard in August.  The biggest thing marriage has taught me is patience, tolerance, and how to dress better. My husband is very concerned with "dressing for success" and with the way people carry themselves. Before I met him, I was a "t-shirt and jeans" kind of girl. He is a manager and dresses to the 9's. I like to dress comfortably but like my face and hair to look nice. I got a new job as senior level management and he took me shopping and helped me choose clothes that would make me "look the part". God bless him because people always compliment me on how nice my outfits are and how "well put together" I look - especially my boss. I told her once that my husband is a fashionista and helps me decide what clothes to buy, as he is the guy who wears cufflinks and suits. So, whenever I have a particularly nice outfit on, she says "Did your husband buy that for you? Your husband did a good!" Personally, I still prefer my comfy clothes, but I must agree that professionally, his suggestions have really helped me in my position, dramatically! Next up, I think I might start getting mani-pedi's and facials on a more routine basis :)

congrats on the anniversary...Mine and Paul's is tomorrow...8 years...we lived together for 2 prior to that...time flies...

Hope you had a nice celebration to commemorate the one year! that's and exciting anniversary!! still newlyweds!!

love to you!

Congratulations!

Oh, what a gift to have a man who likes clothes shopping and has a sense of style. My ex shopped at Value Village exclusively...sigh...

@ Gianna: Happy 8 year Anniversary!!! We went out to dinner with V's parents and stayed over at their house and then were domestic (making the Easter Cake together). We also exchanged cards. It was simple and sweet. Our wedding anniversary in August is what we decided to celebrate formally.

Congrats to you & Paul too!!!

@ WC - Thank you! I am lucky in more ways than I can count! My husband is really fantastic, is a great friend and an amazing companion. Yes, he really loves (and has pretty high standards regarding) clothes, shopping, fashion and looks/physique (not only for himself but for me too, since I am associated with him). Naturally, I am more casual so this was an adjustment for me.

Sorry to hear about your ex! It sounds like I have had a complete opposite experience from you and yours. When Van and I first got together, I wished he would dress DOWN sometimes! I felt like I couldn't keep up with his fanciness. I call him "fancy" because he always wears "shiny" shoes, even when we go to the beach for casual walks. But, over time, I have kinda gotten used to him and his standards. Now, thanks to his help, I have learned to place a little more importance on presentation and have stepped up my own fashion game!

Backstory - My sister actually applied to have me on the show "what not to wear". Thank GOD they didn't choose me! With him, my wardrobe transformed sans the public humiliation of reality tv :)
